Sumter's #1 First and Original Roller Derby Team
The Sumter Fly Girls are bringing the sport of roller derby back to life and in to the Sumter area. Established in March 2011, the rapidly growing Sumter Fly Girls are currently made up of women from Sumter, Aiken, Hartsville, and Darlington. The women vary widely in age, personality, and skill level, but the one thing they share is their love for derby. In addition to skating, the girls have been active in fund raising and charity events. The Sumter Fly Girls are actively recruiting skaters, refs, volunteers, and sponsors.
The Sumter Fly Girls are dedicated to the continued growth of the sport of roller derby in Sumter SC and the surrounding region, to elevating themselves as a first-class amateur athletic team, and to contributing as an impact focused community organization. While each derby “season” is six months long, derby teams stay active in the off season as well. In addition to their practices, roller girls participate in fundraisers and community events, recruit members, fans, and sponsors, and help with local fundraisers for a variety of causes.
Established to be more than just a sports team, The Sumter Fly Girls are creating an organization that brings opportunities for fun and excitement to the city as well as giving back to our community through community service and charitable work.
